Sara's full firsthand review

I recently visited Pangea with my sister and a good friend of ours. We came here on the night of New Years Eve. The outside of the restaurant was vividly glowing at night. The inside was lit up as well. It was spacious and very decorative. I like the style of this place. Makes me feel like i'm sitting inside a Sultan's palace. The inside of Pangea is huge. Plenty of indoor seating as well as outdoor seating which is towards the back. The outdoor seating is ideal for those who are into hookah. I'm not fond of that stuff, so i'm glad the inside of the place wasn't reeking of hookah stench. Pangea is not like the dingy hookah cafes we have in Houston which are overcrowded and obnoxious. Its an actual family style restaurant with a good feel to it. We sat ourselves upon a comfortable couch towards the front with a large coffee table. Throughout the night we received warm and attentive service. The manager and waiters were very friendly and made us feel welcomed. In terms of the food: I recommend trying the Pangea sampler: it consists of 4 of each item: grape leaves, falafel, kibbe, and empanadas. The food was freshly prepared as it took some time and it came out hot and crisp. Absolutely enjoyed each item off the sampler and paired quite well with their cardamom tea. The tea consists of fragrant black tea gently simmered with cardamom and served in a large tea pot. The fried food was drenched down with a hot cup of tea. Empanada's were made from puff pastry, instead of the typical flour dough. Two of the empanadas came with cheese and the other two with beef. Grape leaves were tart and tender. Falafel was crisp and green inside. Fluffy pita bread was served in addition to the sampler. I'd like to try more items off the menu next time around, such as the koshary and hummus. You'll find Egyptian, Levantine, and South American cuisine on the menu. A bit of something for everyone. We were treated to baklava on the house that night. Baklava was a bit on the dry side but still had a nice and sweet taste. The gesture was appreciated. This place is family friendly and the crowd doubled in size later in the night. A belly dancer showed up and was fiercely dancing to the loud music. It was a good night. I can see myself revisiting for lunch or dinner. It's a cool spot to hangout with family or friends. Checkout Pangea Cafe & Grill if you're interested in Mediterranean cuisine with a touch of true hospitality.
