“Something about this location.. its completely off putting.”
Sara's full firsthand review
Something about this location.. its completely off putting. I happened to be in the area so I decided to try Pho Saigon. I do know there are several locations scattered around the city as well. The establishment is well known in Houston and I thought I would be getting some good food from here. It my first time trying Pho Saigon.. and i'm not sure if I want to try it out again. The atmosphere was bleak and the restaurant wasn't that clean. It was quite empty as well. Our waiter didn't seem to have much knowledge in the cuisine either. My mom ordered the shrimp vermicelli bowl and my sister ordered shrimp with steamed rice. They were given a bowl of a typical condiment that consists of vinegar, fish sauce, and sugar. They generously applied this sauce to their meals. The smell of the fish sauce and vinegar was overwhelming and off putting. The shrimp looked dry and had a white-ish color to them. I could tell that they did not enjoy their meals. Luckily I ordered off the menu. I opted for a crispy tofu banh mi which turned out to be tasty. The tofu was filling and the bread was crunchy and fresh. So were the vegetables tucked inside the sandwich. But would I go back here just for a banh mi? Probably not. There are plenty other Vietnamese restaurant's in Houston that I frequent every now and then. This restaurant didn't deliver so much.. and I probably wont be back.
What we tried
Sara tried off the menu, a crispy tofu banh mi. The visit exposed several shortcomings in execution, service, or consistency that outweighed the positives.
The experience
The setting felt clean and comfortable. The atmosphere or upkeep could have been better.
Who might enjoy it?

Would we go again?
